Spring Break Summary

unfortunately my time over spring break was consumed by vacation and travels, which inevitably prevented me from posting throughout the entire week. Not only was I busy with traveling , but majority of my time over break was spent away from internet access in both Florida for the first half of my break and Up north in Land O Lakes the second half. Despite my much needed time away from a computer and internet access I will do my best to try and recap some of my observations of various weather conditions over break.

Florida:
The first half of my break was spent in Palm Coast, Florida. I was lucky enough to travel with my mom, who had meetings there, which conveniently occurred over my spring break. My first day was taken over by three separate flights confining me to the inside of several airports for most of the day. When I finally arrived to the Daytona International Airport and was finally able to go outside I fairly disappointed as considering the great amounts of fog that consumed the sky. Despite the fog, however, temperatures were significantly warm in the mid 70s.

The Florida air was extremely humid and as it began to get darker the mass amounts of water vapor in the air was visibly apparent reflecting in the outdoor lighting. In the bright beams of light the water vapor became visible and made it look as if it was raining. Even though it was not obviously raining, the amount of water vapor was extreme and the humidity was more than noticeable.

The Next day was yet another foggy day, however I was luckily blessed with short periods of sun which contributed to a nasty burn. Despite only brief periods of sunshine and a significant amounts of fog, the intensity of the sun along with lack of sunscreen provided the opportunity for a sunburn. After observations of significant amounts of fog during my first couple days, I concluded that the fog had been occurring because ocean temperatures which were still fairly cool from the winter. Because the air is now warming with a significant amount of moisture, considering the humidity of the US South East, the fog is constantly present as the warm moist air is cooled by the ocean. After I made this conclusion I new that  I may have been out of luck for any significant amount of sun for the rest of my time in Florida - not that I needed anymore after my sunburn.

Of course I was right, the next couple days were similar to the first as fog covered the sky. At certain points the fog was so dense it was nearly impossible to see more than 100 feet in front of you. Even though there was fog, the temperatures were still enjoyable as it never got below 60 degrees and at some pointes reached 80. The warm temperatures made it particularly hard to handle the fact that I would soon be coming home to Wisconsin where I would once again experience freezing air and possibly more snow......

Land O Lakes:
Sure enough as I arrived home to Wisconsin and began drive north to Land O Lakes the day after I returned from Florida I saw snow. The drive began with full gray cloud cover in Wausau where temperatures were just about freezing and as I progressed up north cloud cover seemed to thicken and darken and Snow flurries were on and off throughout the entire trip.

Even Though I came back from Florida to some more snow, the next couple days in Land O Lakes was not completely unbearable. The following couple days were sunny with very few clouds in the sky. Temperatures reached almost 40 degrees and it was nice to see the few inches of snow still left on the ground slowly melt away. Although the skies were sunny and temperatures were fairly warm winds were very strong coming out of the southwest, which was a slight hindrance to our attempt at a campfire.

The last day in Land O Lakes was extremely unpleasant despite the last couple sunny days as I woke up to extreme southwest winds and freezing rain. The window in which I was attempting to look out was covered in ice as the rain continued to cover it and then freeze. The drive home to Wausau maintained similar conditions of cold rainy weather. There were periods of small pieces of hail, but as I made it further south and temperatures were as cold, the freezing rain turned to normal rain.
