Omega Block - Warm Sunny Dry Days to Come!
I was slightly accurate in my predictions from yesterday, stating that temperatures would maintain a similar warming pattern if not slightly increase. However, temperatures have increased far more than I had anticipated for today. I had assumed that because of the south winds that temperatures would stay the same or cause a small increase. I was wrong in assuming this considering that temperatures did not only slightly increase, but in fact warmed up dramatically. This was not at all merely due to the southern winds, as I previously stated, but have been caused by other weather phenomenon occurring.

US Current Temperatures
Very Warm Temperatures For All...
But North East
Today's temperatures reached an unbelievable high of over 60 degrees, which is extremely impressive for being this early in March. The dramatic increase has been caused by the omega block that we are experiencing. The omega block creates a huge high pressure ridge surrounding most of the central United States, not only holding in warm southern air, but causing very dry calm conditions. Because of these conditions we are not experiencing any cloud coverage or chance of precipitation. The skies have been clear all day, and the southern winds very calm. Although we are fortunate enough to be caught within the high pressure ridge, and experience extremely warm sunny conditions, other areas of the United States are not as fortunate. Particularly to the north east, they are experiencing typical cold winter temperatures along with substantial precipitation. The omega high pressure block has given Wisconsin hope for an early spring!

High Chance of Precipitation to the East
Even though temperatures will most likely decrease to some degree after the immediate effects of the omega block, I don't anticipate any dramatic decrease bringing us back to winter conditions. Not only are days getting longer, the increase in temperature has allowed most of the snow to melt, there allowing for the surface to absorbed more of the suns heat. Not only will the sun keep winter away, but as the polar jet stream in situated above us, we wont experience as much cold air. The next couple of days will most likely remain similar to today, with clear skies and no precipitation... and hopefully the warm weather will last for the remainder of the season.
