Easter Weekend and Monday Summary

Easter Weekend Weather

Saturday:
I expected conditions for Saturday in Wausau to get progressively colder with respect to strong north west winds occurring Friday. However, I mentioned as low pressure that was sitting over the north of Wisconsin influenced the Wausau area, high pressure in surrounding areas toward the south west would flow toward the low pressure near us and contribute to a shift in wind direction. When looking back at the slight increase in temperature from Friday to Saturday, it is safe to say that the wind direction did in fact shift, and south west winds helped temperatures to rise above 40 degrees. Although the high pressure flowing towards the low pressure near Wisconsin helped shift wind direction, thus increasing temperature, the strong winds made the temperature increase appear non existent. There were mostly cloudy skies in Wausau Saturday, and no precipitation. Easter Sunday, however, was forecasted to have a strong chance of precipitation, which possibly meant snow if temperatures were cold enough.

Sunday:
Despite the forecast for precipitation for Easter Sunday, conditions remained fairly clear. The Wausau skies were only partly cloudy for most of the day and temperatures were similar to the previous day, just above 40 degrees. Sunday was similar to the day before in the sense that winds were still extremely strong. Despite the partly sunny skies and tolerable temperatures, we could not enjoy Easter dinner on the deck because of the strong winds. In addition to the strength of the winds, the south east direction indicates that precipitation would be likely in the future, although there was no rain or snow that occurred on that day.

Monday:

Temperature: 46
Real Feel: 40
Wind: ENE 15 mph
Precipitation: 0%
Humidity: 64%

My observations from Sundays conditions in Wausau of partly cloudy skies and strong south eastern winds, helped me develop a prediction that precipitation would be likely for last night or sometime today. The light rainfall this morning in Wausau proved my prediction to be accurate. The morning began with overcast skies and light rain began as I began to drive back to Eau Claire.

Stationary Front to the South
of Wisconsin
After I returned to Eau Claire there was no evidence of rain, however the cloud cover is very similar with fully overcast skies. Stratocumulus clouds are currently covering the entire sky. Winds do not appear to be as strong as I remember from this past weekend in Wausau, but they are definitely noticeable at around 15 mph. They are steady at a north east direction which makes me expect some sort of precipitation within the next 24 hours. The north eastern wind pattern could possibly be influenced by the stationary front sitting just to the south of Wisconsin. Temperatures today are fairly cool just above 40 degrees, which is similar to temperatures throughout last weekend. Todays conditions are reflective of a typical lazy, blah Monday.

Strong North East Winds - May
Contribute to Chance of Precipitation
As I mentioned before I expect some sort of precipitation to occur sometime tonight, or possibly tomorrow morning. Aside from the precipitation, I expect tomorrow to maintain consistent temperatures around 40 degrees with respect to the north eastern winds. As long as there is low pressure surrounding the area, I can expect windy and cloudy weather for the next day or so.
