I predicted a dramatic change in weather for this last weekend, in comparison to the previous week. Prior to this weekend, conditions were consistently cold and rainy with respect to unchanged eastern winds, moist air, and a stationary front keeping temperatures around 40 degrees. However, As the jet stream shifted to a more meridional flow allowing the stationary front to end, and low pressure areas died down ceasing the eastern winds, a change in conditions followed. This weekends conditions were pleasantly warm and sunny due to a shift in wind direction along with an increase in pressure.
Friday consisted of mostly sunny skies along with a significant increase in temperature. Temperatures reached the mid 50s, which was considerably warmer when comparing temperatures to the previous week. Wind direction also shifted to the north west as the low pressure in the area died out. Because there were no longer eastern winds and low pressure in effect Friday, there skies were very clear with no precipitation.
Saturday was even more pleasant than Friday. There were no clouds in the sky and temperatures were considerably warm reaching the upper 60s. The increase in temperature was due to another shift in wind direction, and fairly noticeable south western winds contributed to a temperature increase. Like Friday, Saturday was clear with no precipitation as winds were from the south and pressure was fairly high.
Sunday was even more beautiful! Because winds, although considerably stronger, maintained their southern direction, temperatures increased to above 70 degrees. Skies were still very clear, yet there were a few more clouds present on Sunday compared to Saturday. Despite the slight increase in cloud cover, there was still no precipitation Sunday. All and all the weekend was very beautiful, and definitely needed after a long rainy week.
